Values Based Organisations

As Australia’s first Islamic Bank, we are proud that our products will bring financial inclusion to thousands of Muslim Australians, as well as provide an ethical choice in banking for all Australians. As consumers, we are increasingly demanding ethical products in all aspects of our lives, including in the banking products we choose.

It’s often easy in the corporate world to forget that consumers are more than potential sales to be acquired, but people with their own sets of values and ethics. We not only want ethical products, but ethical employers where we feel we don’t have to compromise on the things that are important to us in order to earn a living. Even better, we want to work for employers where we can make a difference and be ourselves.

The findings of the Banking Royal Commission showed banks can go wrong when doing what is right comes second to personal and organisation gain. While every organisation has financial imperatives, organisations like Islamic Bank Australia that build a risk-aware culture that is founded on ethical values operate under the principle that ethical behaviour is fundamental to success.

We have set four values to guide us as we bring to market Australia’s first Islamic bank and ethical banking choices.

Our team is committed to bringing these to life in everything we do –how we make decisions, how we work together, how we acquire and service customers, and also who we hire. Ethical banking products and inclusive workplaces are created by people whose deeply held personal values align, where the commitment to doing the right thing is mutual.

As we move through our restricted banking licence period, we will continue to grow our team.

If you think our values align with yours and are interested in joining our team, we would love to hear from you.

Important regulatory notice

We hold a restricted ADI authorisation granted by the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA). This authorisation allows us to offer banking services, but is subject to certain restrictions such as a cap on the amount of deposits that we can hold in total. The purpose of the “restricted” status is that we can test our systems and processes before launching as a fully unrestricted bank.

We do not currently meet the full prudential framework and/or requirements, and you should consider this before depositing funds with us. After the completion of our “restricted” phase, we plan to obtain APRA’s approval so that we can publicly launch.
